How To Stop Chronic, Daily Annoying Ankle and Foot Pain WITHOUT Injections, WITHOUT Taking Painkillers and WITHOUT Having to Wear a Support or Brace…

If you’re living with bad ankle and foot pain, they’re painful or they ache, making it difficult to wear your favourite shoes – it’s very easy to think that it’s “just something that comes with age”, it’s a bit of “wear and tear”, or that it’s nothing and it’ll go away on its own.

You can’t quite point your finger on why you’re feeling pain in your ankle and foot- but it doesn’t seem to be getting any better!

If that’s happening to you, you’re not alone – we hear this type of thing all the time. In fact, Ankle pain is one of THE most common problems that we see in our clinic

And when it comes to living with ANKLE PAIN, everybody we see wants to know the answers to these questions:

Why is This Happening to me?”…
“Why am I still suffering with ankle and foot  pain that keeps getting worse after putting up with it for 6 months – sometimes more?”…

Most people think that when they get ankle Pain, it’ll eventually “ease off” and go away on its own. That they’ll wake up one morning and like “magic”, all the pain is gone and  be a thing of the past… But then 6 months later you’re still living with the discomfort around your foot and ankle. And its  – often even worse than it was when it came on.

Does That Sound Like You?

Another scenario we see all the time in our physiotherapy clinic is when people go to their Doctors, and the well-meaning Doctor tells them to “rest”, “try these painkillers” and “come back in 6 weeks if it’s no better” – but then 6 weeks later, they end up going back to the same Doctor again because it hasn’t got any better, only to be given ANOTHER prescription of even stronger pills, and maybe an ankle support or a brace.

Has That Ever Happened To You?

Maybe you are confused because you’ve been told different things, by different people. Maybe you think you have to rest because you’ve been told walking makes your ankle pain worse, or that you should be doing ‘this exercise’ and ‘that exercise’ to make it better.

It’s very confusing to know exactly what to do – and that’s just to avoid making it worse!

And because of this confusion – this often leads people to procrastinate and put off making a decision about what to do to help fix their Pain. Worse, many people just end up accepting it as “part of life” – as if it’s normal, as if it “has” to be that way.

Is This How You Feel Too?

This is Miss Joyce. Joyce suffers with Ankle and foot pain!

Don’t Be Joyce!

Joyce is dealing with annoying ankle and foot pain for months now that is not going away, more so she has been missing out on wearing her favourite high heeled shoes and can even dance (she loves dancing). 1. You thought it would go away on it’s own – but it didn’t
  2. You went to the Doctor who told you to rest and take painkillers – but the pills did nothing to help, all they did was ‘mask’ the pain – and as soon as they wore off the foot  Pain stopped you in your tracks again
  3. A family member, or friend, told you that everybody gets ankle and foot pain as they get older, so you just accepted it
  4. You seeked help from other Healthcare Professionals or a Physiotherapist in the past, but nothing they said or did seemed to help
  5. You’ve tried using things like ankle supports but they’ve done nothing to help make the pain any better
  6. You thought it would be a good idea to rest because you experienced severe pain and swelling in your ankles, but it still irritates you daily
  7. You tried a few exercises from ‘Youtube’ – but they felt painful when you did them, and did nothing to ease the pain

What Can I Do To Get Rid Of MY Ankle Pain Quickly?”…

Well, here’s 4 things you can do:

  1. First off, you need to make a decision about getting help. So many people rest for weeks, hoping that the pain will ‘just go away with time’, but then 6 months down the line they’re still putting up with it, and nothing’s changed… Or the pain and swelling gets worse
  2. Next, do the RIGHT exercises – one of the best things to help you ease your ankle pain is to do the right series of progressed exercises – the right exercises given to you by a Physiotherapist will help reduce pain, and allow you to move freely again quick – and make sure that the problems don’t come back any time soon.

3. Avoid wearing improper foot wears – the truth is,  that when you wear an improper foot wear , you’re putting your ankle in awkward, un-natural positions – and when you also go hard too soon with an exercise program that you initially not accustomed to do as seem in most weekend warriors. Activities that put the ankle to use too quickly.  It would really help if you were given appropriate strengthening exercises to improve the strength of your foot and ankle, alongside hands-on treatment, to get you active and healthy as quickly as possible.

  1. Get real, “hands-on” Physiotherapy – Our Treatment is proven to help people with Knee pain. It is one of the most common issues we see people aged 50+ living with. If your ankle is affecting your job, if it stops you from keeping active, or if it threatens your independence and gets in the way of spending quality time with family and friends – Physiotherapy can help get you back to living the life you deserve as quickly as possible.

Foot and Ankle pain

On a given day, more than 25,000 people will sprain their ankle. It can happen when you land the wrong way while you’re playing sports or participating in other physical activities, or even when you step on an uneven surface while walking. It can happen to athletes, non-athletes, children, and adults.

What Is an Ankle Sprain?

Sprains are injuries to ligaments, the “bands” that hold joints together. Ankle sprains occur when the foot twists or turns beyond its normal range of movement, causing the ligaments to stretch beyond their normal length. If the force is too strong, the ligaments may tear.

An ankle sprain can range from mild to severe, depending on how badly the ligament is damaged or how many ligaments are injured. An ankle sprain is given a grade from 1 to 3 depending on the amount of ligament damaged. A grade 1 sprain is mild, grade 2 is moderate, and grade 3 is severe.

Ankle sprains also are classified as acute, chronic, or recurrent:

An acute sprain occurred recently—usually within the past few weeks—and is in an active stage of healing.

A chronic sprain continues to cause symptoms beyond the expected time for normal healing.

A recurrent sprain occurs easily and frequently, usually with only minimal force.

How Does an Ankle Sprain Feel?

With acute ankle sprain, you may have:

Inability to bear weight on the ankle

With most sprains, you feel pain right away at the site of the ligament tear. Often the ankle starts to swell immediately and may bruise. The ankle area usually is tender to the touch and, when you move the ankle, it hurts.

In more severe sprains, you may hear or feel something tear, along with a “pop” or “snap.” You probably have extreme pain at first and are not able to walk or even put weight on your foot. Usually, the more pain and swelling you have, the more severe your ankle sprain is, and the longer it will take to heal.

How Is an Ankle Sprain Diagnosed?

Your Physiotherapist can perform a full evaluation. Manual tests are used to determine how unstable your ankle is. The therapist also will decide whether further tests are required or whether consultation with another health care provider is necessary. In some cases, x-rays might be needed to determine whether there is a broken bone. Occasionally, with severe sprains, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) might be ordered to determine the extent of the damage.

How Can a Physiotherapist Help Treat an Ankle Sprain?

The First 24 to 48 Hours

For the first 24 to 48 hours after injury, ankle sprains usually are treated by resting the ankle on a pillow or stool, using elastic bandages or supports, and 10-minute ice treatments. A Physiotherapist can decide if you should use crutches or a cane to protect your ankle while it is healing.

The physiotherapist can design a specific treatment program for you to follow at home to help speed your recovery. Some sprains may require physical therapy treatments to help relieve swelling and pain, such skilled hand movements called manual therapy, special exercises, ice or heat treatments, and electrical stimulation. More severe sprains may require a special brace to provide extra support to your ankle.

As You Start to Recover

Your Physiotherapist’s overall goal is to return you to the roles you perform in the home, at work, and in the community. Without proper rehabilitation, serious problems—such as decreased movement, chronic pain, swelling, and joint instability—could arise, severely limiting your ability to do your usual activities.

Your Physiotherapist will select from treatments including:

Range-of-motion exercises. Swelling and pain can result in limited mobility of the ankle. A Physiotherapist teaches you how to do safe and effective exercises to restore full movement to your ankle.

Muscle-strengthening exercises. Ankle muscle weakness may cause long-term instability of the ankle and new ankle injuries. Your Physiotherapist can determine which strengthening exercises are right for you based on the severity of your injury and where you are in your recovery

Body awareness and balance training. Specialized training exercises help your muscles “learn” to respond to changes in your environment, such as uneven or unstable surfaces. When you are able to put full weight on your foot without pain, your Physiotherapist may prescribe these exercises to help you return to your normal activities. For instance, your Physiotherapist might teach you how to do this: with or without your eyes closed, stand on one leg or stand on a wobble board to challenge the muscles around your ankle.

Functional training. When you can walk freely without pain, your Physiotherapist may begin “progressing” your treatment program to include activities that you were doing before your injury, such as walking in your neighborhood, jogging, hopping, or modified running. This program will be based on the Physiotherapist’s examination of your ankle, on your goals, and on your activity level and general health.

Activity-specific training. Depending on the requirements of your job or the type of sports you play, you might need additional rehabilitation that is tailored for your job or sport and the demands that it places on your ankle. Your Physiotherapist can develop a program that takes all of these demands—as well as your specific injury—into account.

Can an Ankle Sprain be Prevented?

If you have sprained your ankle more than once in your life, you might be at risk for re-injury in the future if the ligaments did not heal properly or if your ankle never returned to its normal strength. And, if you returned to sports or activities too soon after injury, your ankle might give you persistent pain or might easily or frequently sprain. A Physiotherapist determines when you are ready to return to your activities and sports and helps make sure that your ankle is strong and ready for action, using body awareness and balance training, exercises to correct imbalances and weakness of specific muscles, exercises to improve mobility, and a progressive functional training program that allows you to gradually and safely return to your activities without injury
